The
sexy deep soul that emanates from Trish Ribeiro comes from an incredibly
passionate vocalist with a modest beginning. Patricia Alexandra
Ferreira Ribeiro was born on November 9th in Lisbon, Portugal and
shortly thereafter moved to Toronto, Canada where she was raised.
As early as the age of two she was already craving the spotlight
and by age 6 she was enrolled in Portuguese Folklore dancing and
ballet. She continued dancing and expanded her training by taking
various acting workshops with Anne Tait, Michael Caruana and TVI
The Actor's Studio in New York. She also trained vocally with James
McDonald, who was not only her vocal coach but her director, producer
and conductor in various community theatre shows that she began
honing her craft in.
While she continued to work towards her ultimate goal of being an
all around entertainer, she went to Ryerson Polytechnic University
and acquired a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Radio and Television
Broadcasting. Although she had done a number of high school plays,
community theatre shows and been a back up singer for some prominent
Portuguese performers, such as Roberto Leal, her singing career
began formally at 16. It was then that she landed her very first
audition for the Canadian theme park now known as "Paramount Canada's
Wonderland" in a show called "Rockin' Scooby". Once she began University,
she left her singing and dancing career behind her as she focused
on television.
It was then that she proved to be talented in every aspect of her
professional life. She started working in multicultural television,
specifically CFMT. She began reporting the Sports for a Portuguese
Sports show called "So Desportos", then "Podium". From there she
became the sports anchor for the Portuguese news, Telejournal. Once
they saw that her talents excelled in the realm of entertainment,
they decided to make her the co-host, then host of a popular Portuguese
entertainment show, "Lamire".
While
working on this multicultural station, Trish also tried to find
her niche on children's television and began interning at YTV, Canada's
national children's network. After a few months of interning, she
went to Los Angeles to shoot two episodes of the already popular
"The Anti-Gravity Room" a show about youth pop culture. Then finally,
her big break in Canadian Children's programming...YTV's ever popular
"Uh Oh". The show is currently airing its sixth season.
After three years of working simultaneously at two different television
stations, Trish decided that it was time to get back to what really
burned inside her...performing. In the spirit of making her dreams
come true, she said goodbye to her CFMT family. Shortly after leaving
Portuguese language television, Trish joined the musical comedy
group "The Washed Up Blondes", who led her to her current home,
New York, New York.
The last couple of years in New York were an incredibly arduous
journey of self-discovery, but it led to the blossoming Blues singer
that Trish has become. She has a voice that has been described as
"a female Robert Plant" and has also been compared to the likes
of Taylor Dane and Aretha Franklin. In her gritty and soulful live
performances she conveys tremendous power, intense emotion and a
dynamic energy that is further accented by her engaging stage presence.
Trish has performed and worked with such distinguished musicians
as Julio Fernandez and Joel Rosenblatt from the prestigious jazz
band Spyro Gyra, electric violinist Lorenzo La Roc (formally with
Sheila E), Keith Lambeth (bassist for Aretha Franklin and Otis Redding),
Mark D'Ambrosino (drummer for Whitney Houston, Ray Charles) and
countless other celebrated artists including Toronto's own Jeff
Healey, whose club hosted her debut this past December.
She has just finished her first album "BARE" which is now on
sale now. This project, which she has written and produced
independently, is a blend of soul, blues and funk sung with an undeniable
honesty that looks deep in your heart and leaves you smiling.
